The young matured boys’ interview: Happy to be zongyika 10/22

Last year 24th December, Lollipop just changed their image to the fantasy ancient hero “HTQXZ”, bringing their OST album to Beijing sharing some of their ancient hero dreams. It’s only been one year and the boys are back bringing a new album “I am Legend”. Not only that during December they will be holding their “I am Legend” concert.

Every performance Lollipop would give us something new, what kind of surprises the boys will give us this time?

Matured Lollipop conversation: Wanting to be the striper, happy as zongyika

Q: Question | AQ: AoQuan | WZ: WangZi | XJ: XiaoJie | XY: XiaoYu | WL: WeiLian | AW: AWei

Q: Continuing from last conversation of “HTQXZ” they guys had the fun of being ancient heroes, this time for “I am Legend” what kind of fun do you guys have?

XJ: This time we’re playing as young mature boys because we aren’t concluded as mature men. This time we hope to drop the childish feel, the album style and cover would look more mature. But song style is still Lollipop’s style, relax and happy feel.

Q: So it means you want everyone to see you’ve all grown, how would you express that?

XY: We worked on our bodies, training our bodies. WeiLian has gotten a bit fatter, right?

Q: Then what kind of body is concluded as mature man’s body?

AW: Most importantly it must be strong, body needs to have a bit of muscle that would make it looks a bit mature. Although the style this time we’re all wrapped up but during the concert we would show a little. Showing off what we trained for the concert, showing our mature side.

Q: So that’s how it is. I also know that you recently opened two concerts at Hong Kong. Everyone knows that Hong Kong singers have a habit of showing off her figure, did you guys also strip?

XJ: (laughs) Yes, the first concert day was still covered but the second day someone was crazy, amd someone couldn’t sit still.

Q: Who are they?

AW: Me and XiaoYu. I already prepared it but XiaoYu’s sudden emotion came and was too passion and pulled his shirt sharing it with everyone.

XJ: He requested that! During his solo part the rest of us looked and was like “Wow! He had that up his sleeve” The fans were screaming crazily.

WL: I also want to strip but wasn’t ready as my body still needed to train more. But everyone said XiaoYu’s body looks better.

AW: I think this kind of thing everyone is preparing, just waiting for a good timing. This time for Beijing concert we will train our bodies more, see if there’s a chance we can share it to everyone.

Q: But like WangZi, WeiLian and XiaoJie doesn’t seem too suitable revealing her muscles.

WL: Please don’t force me!

XY: WangZi would be weird; no matter how much he eats he won’t get fat. Even if he is muscular he’s still not suitable to strip. [WangZi needs to prove him wrong]

WZ: I also wish I could, if one day I have a body like AWei I would definitely strip on stage. [Hope that day comes earlier!]

Idol and comedian, both wanted

Q: Within these two years you guys have been to China a lot of times, are you familiar with any idol groups in China?

WZ: Yes, like BoBo, SuJu-M, Blue Bird Flying Fish, Top Combine and etc. We’ve heard of them and have met them but to be honest we haven’t come in contact a lot.

Q: We also know that idol groups in China starts slower compare to Hong Kong Taiwan, from your experiences looking at these idol groups in China is there any points they win over you and that they are stronger?

WZ: We like to take notice of other’s good points, like SuJu-M they have a very charming stage presence dance are also very neat and good at showing their charms to the audience. We need to improve more on that.

XJ: I think the only advantage we have is the zongyi side, we’re on an advantage for this. If we have to say one of Lollipop’s characteristic it would be that. The six of us debuted from a variety show; the way we speak and perform is close to variety show type. Because we’re too used to this style other groups would seem different. Sometimes we would discuss if we over act a bit, should we calm down a bit like other groups but we then thought we should just act the way we are this differentiate us from others.

Q: As time passes lots of people have a habit thinking idols should be honoured by everyone making idol needs a mystery side, an untouchable side. But you guys are always heading the zongyi side, making yourselves like a comedian just like a normal person.

AW: The six of us are actually from a variety show, a lot of things we learned it slowly. When we debuted we brought a lot of laughter to people, we did not want to give an impression that once we’re idols we need to give them a mysterious feel. That is also not our true self.

AQ: Actually at first we’re in a dilemma just like what you said, we need to be idol and also comedian, a lot of the times we don’t know what to do. But after our discussion we would act differently according to different situation.

WZ: While on variety show we would work hard to be funny and while being a singer on stage we would work hard showing our charm.

We’re proud to be zongyika

Q: When we were talking about growing up, you guys have mention that out of 10 songs there’s 9 songs was composed by yourselves. Amongst all I especially caught notice of “ZongYiKa”, it seem to be talking about your experiences on variety show.

AQ: This album we participated in composing and got the chance to write this song. I wrote about the six of us started from MFBBT and some which was not seen by the audience. All our feelings were written in the lyric hoping they see zongyika is not always happy and revealing our personal feelings, hope they can feel this.

Q: What kind of feeling does the name zongyika gives you?

AQ: Proud!

XY: If I had to pick between zongyika and idol on how we should be called, I rather people call us zongyika.

AW: But we are very handsome zongyika.

Q: I also notice that Taiwan is going in a zongyika status, a lot of artists or even non-artist would participate in variety show and become popular. People name this “zongyika” wave, how would you guys look at this?

WL: Yes yes, zongyi at Taiwan seems fortune, maybe everyone likes happy things.

XJ: This is the latest wave, but this might disappear after a few years.

Q: From this zongyika wave there seem to be a lot of different and unique characters appeared, like HuiCi. Did she appear on your show?

WL: Yes yes yes, she’s very unique, extremely straight and her way of thinking is different.

Q: So usually on show how would you manage unique characters like HuiCi? Let her continue her uniqueness or try to control her?

AW: During on show we’re in the host position, before she comes we practically know what she’s thinking. Sometimes we would plan something for them to show like a performance, we must plan for her otherwise things will get out of control. But sometimes out of control will bring the show more interesting, so we would use her lost in control to make more funny jokes.

Q: So you would deliberately plan a whole for her to jump in?

Lollipop: Yes.

Q: But because of that issue Taiwan variety show would sometimes be commented in China, will you be bothered by those comments?

XJ: Comparing Taiwanese and China variety show it’s very different. Like lately we recorded a show sometimes we would talk random things. But China variety show would consider their target audiences but Taiwan wouldn’t think much so it’s freer. But it’s also good to be considerate like the China variety show.

WZ: Most importantly we don’t insult anyone.
